The Journey Begins
Started from Kolkata on 18th of May, 2011. A team of three, Santanu Karar, Ayan Dasgupta and me, went to Siliguri by Volvo 9400 intercity bus service. The journey was interrupted due to an accident near Dhulian which blocked National Highway for six hours till the road was cleared by local police. The day after we reached Siliguri, we started for Sandakphu. Photo courtesy: Ayan Dasgupta
Lamaydhura
The Lamaydhura is a small village on the way to Tumbling. It was cold and raining all the time. We met some cheerful villagers who greeted us with warm smiles. The road was wet and muddy and made us nervous. The first day, and we were somewhat concerned. We found a guide, Peter Rai, at Manebhanjan. We are here at Singalila.
Lamaydhura
The first day of Sandakphu trek... everyone excited. We started to click all over the place. The villagers were amused, and so we were. The air was so pure, hardly there was any noise and smiles were all over our faces.

The first day of Sandakphu trek... we were expecting a great experience and a wonderful trip. But we were concerned about the weather too, the monsoon had arrived. Photo courtesy: Ayan Dasgupta
Meghma
A pit stop on the way to Tumbling. A village temple with a water mill (gharat) inside powered by a small stream.
Tumbling
Everyone was overwhelmed by the scenic beauty. Clicks, more clicks. The blue hills, clouds and some faraway town beyond the hills. One thing that cannot be seen is the shivering cold wind, but the skull cap shows. We were in Nepal, reminded by the zero mobile networks. We had to walk up-hill to find a 'network corridor'. Tumbling
First night on the trek supposed to be at Tumbling. A small village with few trekkers hut. This is where we were staying that night, with that 'Welcome to Nepal' sign... seen in all the Sandakfu Trek Journals. We were in Nepal, treated with some delicious noodles, Tibetan bread and more. The dinner was real fun. Photo courtsey: Santanu Karar
